Visiting Kyoai from New York: Kyoai Dyeing Studio

Recently, I have been receiving an increasing number of customers at my studio from New York.

Ten years ago, I didn’t have a job I wanted to pursue, and I wanted to learn about the values of people from various nationalities.

So, I saved money and went to New York.

In New York, I happened to encounter indigo dyeing, and that’s where my story began.

After ten years and a long period of apprenticeship, I finally have my own studio.

I have always wanted to hold an exhibition of my indigo-dyed works in New York, where I first encountered indigo dyeing.

Today, a customer from New York visited my studio after seeing my website and learning that I had encountered indigo dyeing in NY.

They came all the way from NY to Kyoto to experience Kyoto indigo dyeing.

I am extremely happy.

I also feel joy as the number of people using my brand, Riku Matsuzaki, and its products in New York slowly increases.

At the same time, I am collaborating with artists from New York.

We are progressing towards an exhibition scheduled for October, and it excites me to think that something in my life is changing for the better.

It makes me realize that the dream of having an exhibition in New York doesn’t have to remain just a dream.

Carrying Kyoto indigo dyeing on my back, the art I encountered in New York, I will embark on this challenge.

It fills me with excitement.
